Sangdo
Next up, we decided to climb the hill with all the dogs.
We followed this old woman up, but we could barely keep up with her.
Don't take the back door out this place.
Up high.
In this crack in the foundation of one house, I could see old sandbags, probably left over from the war.
Slow down!
Chickens!
We got to the top and looked over the other side. The buildings were old, but there were no signs of imminent demolition or eviction.
They started barking right after I took this.
Going back the way we came.
We found a workout area at the top of the mountain.
This guy sits with his dog surveying the condemned valley.
Coming down, we encountered this house with the roof smashed in. From where I'm standing it would've been easy to do.
Signs of fire in a nearby home.
On the way into this place, we encountered an old man. He left a moment later and we had a look around.
Back down at the bottom.
A subterranean house.
I won't go that way.
A closer look at the guard tower house.
My scooter was right where I left it.
Two friendly looking guard dogs.
We aimed the scooter up another wall of the valley, and drove as far as we could until it was impossible. Up here, there were several still-inhabited homes covered in messages of defiance. The word to the right of this door, "tu-jaeng," means "fight." I've seen it written on other buildings.
Jung was able to tell looking at graffiti somewhere (not here) that they'd been resisting eviction for years.
There was a guard dog at the top.
I didn't want to go higher than this.
A curious looking machine.
Climbing up, I could see what it did. It takes the rough rubble on the left and grinds it into the fine stuff on the right.
Ice path. Jung wouldn't even let me get close to this.
We walked all the way to the top.
This dog was tied up in a park at the top.
What in the hell is this building? There were no signs, just one warning that outsiders weren't allowed. Sometimes on the tops of Seoul mountains I feel like I'm in the TV show Lost.
Time to go.
