MF Crew Show
On our final weekend before heading off to Canada, Jung and I went down to Cheongju to see an MF Crew show on their own home soil. I saw some staple MF Crew bands like Attacking Forces, 13 Steps, and Lowblow. Also, Gumx and Johnny Royal were down there. This show had a huge crowd of kids there but there was no door charge because apparently the club owners in Cheongju don't understand where money comes from. It was a great show.

Spiky Brats CD Release
This show was one of the best of the year, not because of the CD which I can hardly remember now but because just about everyone who I wanted to see was out. The bands were great, everyone was in a great mood, and we all got wasted. What more could you want?
It was Mike's last weekend, which sucked. I'm not even sure if he made it out. Instead I ran into Bradshaw, who I'd been hearing about but always missed. We got drunk and I saw him hide behind a car.
I was planning to go to Edmonton for Christmas, so this was my last show in Skunk Hell. That year I missed quite a Christmas show, which sucks, but I went home and saw a couple very good shows there, not to mention had a family Christmas.

GMC Show
There were two shows on Saturday night: a GMC show in Ssamzie and a pop-punk show at Skunk. I felt like going to the hardcore one. It had been a long time since the last one, so I headed down to Ssamzie Space.
The show was poorly attended, and I don't think it's because all the hardcore fans were at Skunk Hell for the Tacopy show.

Chaos Class Premature Ejaculacore Show
Chaos Class had a show in some other venue tucked away in a corner of Hongdae. It had a sign out front that said "NO MINORS. NO G.I.S." But there were both minors and GIs inside.
I coined the term premature ejaculacore after this night to explain the sudden popularity of bands with songs shorter than 30 seconds. As far as I could tell it started in Korea with Vicious Nerds, whose shortest song "Freedom" is less than three seconds long. At this show there were two new bands that did the same thing, and it was getting on my nerves really badly.
After the show we went back to Skunk where there was an all-night party.

Migliore Show
There was some kind of concert in Myungdong in front of the Migliore. We saw Couch, Suck Stuff, and Attacking Forces, as well as one or two other bands. The whole thing was connected with some sort of cartoonist group, and each band had to have a member who was a cartoonist. It was a pretty good time and a nice change of scenery, even if Jung heard some girls in the audience saying Yeongsoon looks like a pig.

Mike's Camera
My camera spent the better part of October being repaired, and I was starting to miss it a little too much, so I borrowed Mike's. I did the same thing again in February 2007 for the Hat Trickers show. Thanks again, Tool Human.

The Return of Paul
Paul needs no introduction now, but in 2004 he was living in Utah with his then girlfriend Samia. He started his own band called the 12th Street Staggers and he lived in a trailer park. Somehow he got back to Korea to visit for a while in October.
Paul was one of those few guys who'd been around longer than me, up there in the ranks with the likes of Joey and Burke, both who were currently in Korea. He grew up in Korea mainly on Yongsan Air Base, and in our zine Broke he wrote about running away from home and living inside the old Skunk Hell. He was an early member of Rux but not an original member I think. So Jonghee invited him to play a set with Rux that night.
My flash wasn't working so I had to take exposure shots that night.

Ssamzie Festival
Rux and Ghetto Bombs were playing the Ssamzie Festival. Unfortunately I missed Rux but showed up in time for Ghetto Bombs. Back then I didn't like them much, and this show gave me reason to laugh a little at them. They did a short set backing Yin Soonye, a Korean pop singer. It was odd.
Anyway, over time I grew to like the Ghetto Bombs.

Chaos Class
I went to WASP for a Chaos Class show. They got a lot of different bands to play, particularly a lot of hardcore like the Geeks and Vicious Nerds. At the time the Explode and Fuckers Everywhere were the two main Chaos Class bands. They both had a very similar sound, and it wasn't rare for them to cover the exact same Unseen songs at shows. It got a little bit much actually, and wouldn't have been so bad if they weren't too close to each other. Eventually Fuckers Everywhere broke up and DK went on to form Bad Idols.
Also, I think the first band whose name I couldn't remember is Slopman. They were Japanese students living in Korea or something.

BPJC Show
Here are some pictures from a BPJC show at Skunk. At the time, a lot of hardcore bands were connected with BPJC, so it's an unusual selection.

Ska Show
When I heard there were going to be two new ska bands, I didn't get my hopes up. Dub Spain turned out to be more of a rock-with-horns type band like Sublime. Kingston Rudieska were pretty rough at first but they had a lot of potential. They played a lot of covers and their original singer was from Half Brothers.
Something else to watch out for in these pictures is the foreigner with curly red hair. There's an interesting story behind him.
We (me, Burke, and Joey) met a German tourist who was here for a couple weeks. He was nice, and you could tell by looking at him that he was a fan of Korean popstar Bi, if you get my not-so-subtle drift.
We went to a restaurant in Hongdae after a punk show with all the Korean punks, and there was one American English teacher there. This guy came up to the two of us, and said to my German friend, "I don't normally do this, but you're the sort of guy I find really hot." He then started describing how much he wanted this German guy so badly.
After sitting there for a couple minutes, I finally chimed in with a bit from Seinfeld: "How do you know he's not with me?"
The American yelled "Shut the fuck up!"
So whatever, I felt bad for the guy because he was obviously going to be tortured over this. We ditched him and went to the other bar where everyone was headed. Unfortunately he followed the Koreans. In this bar, he plopped himself down and started to drool over a Korean girl who happened to be dating a particularly frightening Korean (who luckily wasn't there). By this time it was clear nobody wanted him there.
He fell out of his chair, and I didn't think he'd get up, but he did. So I bought him a pitcher. We all drank it, and he was still on his chair. So we bought another pitcher. Finally he wandered out of the bar and fell asleep in the street, and had whatever was left in his wallet cleaned out.
I felt guilty, but then on Monday I was talking to Joey about it, and he told me "You should've beaten him up." It turns out the guy went around to every single Korean punk with us, as well as the German guy, and said the exact same "You're so hot I need to fuck you" type speech to every single man and woman there, minus of course me. I can tell you the Koreans were not thrilled.

Skunk Hell
Another weekend without much happening. It seemed like everyone was depressed this day.

Skunk Hell
I only took a small amount of pictures this night. It doesn't look like a busy show.

Mad Professor
The dub artist Mad Professor was on tour with Lee Perry. They played together in Japan but for some reason Mad Professor decided to come to Korea without Lee Perry. It was a bit more hippie-dub than I usually like but at the time it was the only sort of reggae music you could find in Korea.
Also I spent the night in Hongdae Playground and took pictures the whole time. It was a memorable night.
