Blake

I got a visit from Blake, one of the Edmonton skinheads. He was in town for only a couple days as a Korean friend of his was getting married here. They spent the weekdays in Seoul and I managed to meet up with them one night.

Blake has been in a lot of Edmonton bands. When I was still there he was in the bands Tosspots, (later renamed) Hit n Run, and joined the Dancefloor Disasters. Now his band is Balls Out Face First.

Join the Circle CD Release

Since today is Halloween, I'm not only posting two galleries at once, but I'll also give you a special Halloween treat--my Halloween Choose-Your-Own-Adventure story.

Halloween is the greatest holiday of the year. Maybe you don't get the day off school, and there are more presents on Christmas, but on Halloween you get to carve a Jack O'Lantern with your parents and you can roam the neighbourhood after dark in a costume and get free candy.

Your two best friends, Richard and Nicole, arrive at your door after sunset. Richard is wearing a Batman costume and Nicole is dressed up as an angel with big white wings. The three of you have pillowcases for carrying candy.

Richard is excited to start trick-or-treating. "Where should we go first?"

Nicole suggests, We could go to High Street, where all the rich people live."

Richard shakes his head. "My parents told me I can't go to the other side of Green Avenue."

Where do you want to go?

We'll stay nearby.
We'll go to High Street.

Join the Circle CD Release

Skunk Hell was getting the carpets cleaned, so the Geeks had to spend most of their set airborne. Yeah, you don't want to get carpet shampoo on your shoes.

Join the Circle CD Release

Today's gallery is Things We Say. Sean has been playing guitar for them for a while, so I wasn't going to miss these guys.

I've figured out a few things about photographing hardcore bands, so I got lots of jump photos this time.

Join the Circle CD Release

Sean is leaving Korea soon, so there was one final show for him to play in Join the Circle and Things We Say. Halloween is on a Wednesday so some people dressed up in costumes for this show. Not many though.

When Sean's gone we'll replace him with Matt and see if anyone notices. If you don't think they look alike in this picture, why do so many people who know both of them mix them up all the time?

Boggle Top Scores

This is just to show a guy online. He's mad at me because he thinks I cheated at Boggle. If you like Boggle, you'll enjoy this online version. The secret is to be picky about which board you play. If you don't get a good board, just hit the "try again" button until you get one that's nice. As you can see on this one, I did well because there are "-er" and "-ed" and "-s" possible combinations all clumped together. I see now that I could've scored higher if I entered "swelter."

Sound Day at DGBD

Lorne suggested I show up at DGBD on Friday for a Crying Nut/Kingston Rudieska show and mash up the place, if you will. I've never actually seen Crying Nut in that venue so I made some time. The place was incredibly packed and it was pretty dangerous to be walking around in there with a camera. I got a few good pictures while pressed up to the front. Good times were had by almost all.

Korea/Japan Oi Punk Festival

Here's the final gallery with the final band of the night, Tabloid Play. We also took very unorganised group photos outside after the show, and I climbed a lightpole to get a better angle. Good fun.

Korea/Japan Oi Punk Festival

Here are more pictures of the festival. This time you can see everyone from Shorty Cat to Cropped Men to the Explode to Captain Bootbois. Only one band left.

Korea/Japan Oi Punk Festival

I slipped a few more bands in this gallery. There's Disclapties, Foolishness, and Gukdo. Most important of all (to me), Joey returned for the first time to Skunk in over two years. He's back for a month to open a new Mexican franchise restaurant, On the Border. I have to go there this weekend to try it out.

Korea/Japan Oi Punk Festival

The first band up was Rux. Since the show started early and it was a sunny day, I got a lot of outside shots for you to wade through. Tomorrow I'll post some other bands, but for now all you can see is Rux.
