Beat the Cold

Jesse was such a big help working the door on Saturday that I feel obligated to return the favour. Hopefully he'll get a good turnout at his show this week. They're collecting winter clothes to give to homeless people, so don't bother bringing money to this show, just old clothes.

UPDATE: They got something like 15 bags of clothes in donations. Everyone really came through. I helped carry the bags to Seoul Station to be given out to the homeless people. Probably the only record of this happening is on Adam's PhotoBucket page

Adam's pictures

Today, we're spotlighting Adam's photos. Adam moved to Korea last summer, but they stuck him down in Waekwan away from all of us. It turns out there's not much use for a straight-edge, black, vegetarian skinhead down south, so he came up to join us for the weekend. He used to be a photographer back in the US and got into the Warped Tour for free, so I'd like to see more photos by him. Here's hoping he puts together a real website sometime.

Not all these photos were taken by him. At one point when he was dancing I confiscated his camera so I could fulfill my otherworldly urges. The bottom part of the gallery is done by me and I'm not sure if he took the last photo or not. Everything else is all Adam.

Sean O'Leary's pictures

Because I don't have a camera at the moment, I need pictures. So I asked a few people to send me their pictures of the event. Diane was our official photographer, but I also asked Sean O'Leary to take some pictures as well. He's in the hardcore band Join the Circle. I liked his photos and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Soul Allnighter

Thanks to everyone who came out. We didn't do an official head count but judging by the money we ended up with at the end of the night there were over 100 people there.

I was excessively happy to see the Korean punks out. Those guys are the ones I really want to hear this music. Two members of Kingston Rudie Ska came during Jonathan's set but one was really too drunk and they didn't stay long. Also, Sun Radio showed up.

The night started slowly and we were all worried in the beginning it wouldn't live up to the last one. So the first several songs were all slow as well, up until the Israelites. In general things got rolling about half an hour later than they did the first time, but that's okay because we had twice as many people in total.

I managed to put together a nearly complete playlist of my sets the entire night. There were about nine songs I played last time that got repeats, as the first time out I don't think some of the skinhead reggae I played got enough dancing. They all did this time, and I mixed in crowd pleasers and classics that everybody knows to keep people paying attention.

Once again, the DGBD guys were great. They're good people to put on a show with. Plus, Jesse was very helpful doing the door all night, with Paul's help of course.

This night made a lot of money for the Slackers tour, so of course I want to do another Soul Allnighter in early March. I'm thinking of asking Kingston Rudie Ska to play.

Wowsan

I showed up early in Hongdae to put up posters, and met up with Verv. Together we climbed Wowsan, the small mountain hidden behind Hongdae. Didn't know there was a mountain there? It's small enough that you can barely see it. It's a nice little quiet place where you can get away from all the cityness if you want to. We didn't even break a sweat climbing it. On my map of mountains I've climbed, it's not marked down because it's just too small.

My camera hasn't been behaving lately. The tape holding it together isn't enough anymore and it's getting harder to turn it on each time. This is exactly what happened the last time when I retired it for two years, so the same thing is probably going to happen again. I might get a new one, I might get this one fixed, who knows. There are a lot of other things I have to do other than take pictures. Expect to see a lot of shameless self-promoting on this space leading up to the Slackers tour. By the time they come, I want to have a camera working so I can take pictures.

New Year's Eve

After midnight we returned to FF to see Sun Party, a combination of Waking Party and Sun Radio. I don't really remember how it was but there was a lot of dancing.

New Year's Eve

There wasn't a lot going on for New Year's Eve. We settled on FF, where there was unlimited alcohol for 25 000 won. For the rest of the night I wasn't seen without at least two rum & cokes. The highlight of the FF show was the Moonshiners. We didn't know many people there so we headed back to see what was going on at Skunk at midnight. When we arrived there was a band playing and probably nobody inside noticed. Outside it was a different story.
