Angry Fists Friday show

It's not often I make it out to a Friday show, but it's been a while since they put shows on on Friday regularly. The main reason I came was to see Angry Fists, the first band. They were very impressive. I hope we'll be seeing a lot more of them in the future.

It's nice going to a show when there isn't a huge crowd. Reminds me of the old days.

Couch CD Release

Notice that the last few entries have been a lot more colourful than some of the photos I've been posting recently? I guess punk and ska are just more colourful than hardcore.

Anyway, here's Couch, one of the more colourful bands. Stick around for Angry Fists.

Spiky Brats and Discocks

You'll be happy to know the big show on Saturday will only be divided into two galleries this week. I knew I'd be taking a lot of pictures, so I decided to focus only on Couch, Spiky Brats, and the Discocks. Most of the other bands I'd seen the week before and didn't want to be redundant. Today I'll show you Spiky Brats and Discocks. Tomorrow you'll see the Couch photos. And later, you can see Angry Fists, who played an impressive show on Friday night.

Also, I discovered that someone registered a Konglish version of my name mirroring this site. At least they didn't call me Jon Denver. Interesting, but I'm curious who did it and why.

Kingston Rudy Ska

I hadn't seen these guys in months, and by an amazing coincidence, I showed up in Hongdae wearing my favourite suit. So I decided to duck out of Skunk for a bit to check out Kingston Rudy Ska's set.

They're still the best ska band in Korea, but I miss the days when they'd play shows at venues all over; it seems like they're confined to Drug now. I remember in the heat of last summer seeing them play in a small open area next to Club Cargo. Hopefully we'll see more shows like that again this year. By the way, a friend of mine named Tom who moved to Daegu sent me an interesting picture. This is from the Shark Tank in Edmonton during the Glory Stompers reunion in 2003. The band playing is the Wednesday Night Heroes. See if you can spot me. Also, I found a picture that has him. Look here, find the girl with the liberty spikes, and he's the hairless man standing right behind her, his head mostly obscured.

Farewell to Josh

This time of year is proving to be a killer. Last week was Spanky's last show, this week was Josh's last show, and in two weeks is Scott's last show. That's three American skinheads disappearing within less than a month. What's it gonna be like when it's just Verv and me?

Anyway, I'm glad I had a chance to have an honest conversation with Josh before we parted ways. I've said goodbye to a lot of friends I've made here, but it always sucks each time. I'm still pissed I didn't make it out to see Spanky off last week.

I also captured several videos in the park, but their quality isn't so good because of the lack of lighting.
-Verv doing a penguin dive onto a skateboard and getting hurt in different ways twice.
-Me doing the limbo while holding the camera.
-Verv failing at the limbo and getting doggy-piled, ultimately shouting "Human pyramid!" (and you know what happens next.)
-Paul and Verv ending their fight, no blows thrown, in a tender embrace followed by a full mouth kiss.
-Verv jumping from the top of the slide and everyone booing because he's okay, and then him shouting "Fight club!"

There are a bunch of Josh performing in Skunk but I'm not sure if I'll put any of the videos online.

Skunk Hell

It was a mostly skinhead show at Skunk last weekend. Usually when these bands play, the only people who show up are fellow scenesters. Well maybe it was the good weather, or the fact that it was Josh's final show, or maybe just because the bands were all great.

I didn't come looking to take a lot of photos, but I did want to hit up Vassline because I missed their big show in Rolling Hall. Also for part of the night I disappeared to see some of Kingston Rudy Ska's set at Drug. We'll see those pictures soon. As well, I have a bunch of pictures from Josh's acoustic set and our human pyramid in the park. Stay tuned.

Happy White Day!

What should be a wonderful holiday for Caucasians everywhere is actually just ball-and-chain day for guys with girlfriends. It's sort of reverse-Korean Valentine's Day, with Korean Valentine's Day being reverse-Valentine's Day, so basically it's Valentine's Day one month later. I found this hilarious story about a Korean giving a speech in front of a mostly female and mostly black audience. It reads like something out of The Office.

Tonight I'm taking my girlfriend to see Walk the Line. I kind of got to do what I wanted anyway, but nobody tell her that.

Missing Photos

I recently discovered that the template I'd been using for all the galleries I put together at work had a defect, and three file names never appeared. Looking through some old galleries, I added the file names to see what we'd been missing. Here are a few sets of three photos from a few shows over the last several months. All the original galleries have been updated as well.

As the next season of Trailer Park Boys grows closer, I'm looking forward to this.

R*A*M*B*O Tour in Skunk Hell

Here's the rest of the photos, featuring 13 steps, Reanimator, Things We Say, Suck Stuff, and of course R*A*M*B*O.

Yesterday I got food poisoning and barfed while taking the subway home. Luckily the doors opened just in time and I managed to chunder outside of the subway car.

R*A*M*B*O Tour in Skunk Hell

For part one of the R*A*M*B*O show, you can see the truth about Pulgasari's sexuality, the Explode, a little bit of the Patients, and the Geeks. There's more to come.

Sam-Il show at Ehwa Women's University

Okay, here are the Geeks and R*A*M*B*O. They're touring across Korea, playing in Daegu, Chungju, and of course Skunk Hell on Saturday.

For more information about the R*A*M*B*O tour, visit their tour page. Also, you should keep your eyes on Gunhee's weblog, where he has the inside story.

Sam-Il show at Ehwa Women's University

R*A*M*B*O has arrived in Korea, but they're not here to kill Soviets. They've been on a pan-Asian tour, and Korea is something like the seventh country they've visited. Oh, and they bring some news that will shock the Korean punk scene: there is punk music outside of Korea and Japan.

We'll get to R*A*M*B*O and the Geeks tomorrow, but for right now I'll show you the first bunch of bands I saw. Unfortunately I arrived late and missed the first two.
