Sunday in China

We checked out of our hotel and moved into a youth hostel in Wudaokou.

This picture would have ben a lot cooler without the bus in the way.

A street busker in Wudaokou.

This is basically Beijing's Koreatown.

I don't know what this says but she doesn't look homeless enough to be a beggar.

Megan calls her boyfriend.

Markets near the elevated train platform.

Waiting for the train.

I'm very curious what this says.

Arriving at Tiananmen Station. Our first objective was to find the McDonald's so we could meet Adam and MR27 and Megan would stop whining about being hungry.

Jung ran up to a group of foreigners to ask for directions, and one of them said "No thanks." They ended up not knowing where McDonald's is anyway.

Finally we took a cab so we could search for it.

Megan wanted a victory shot in front of the McDonald's. This guy on the left was trying to sell us a ride on his bike, which would have been the shortest ride ever.

Megan puts ketchup on every individual fry.

All Jung had was an ice cream cone.

Finally MR27 showed up.

Jung wanted to push this guy over the ledge.

Searching for Tiananmen Square.

Things you are not allowed to do on the grass.

The south end of Tiananmen Square.

Mao Tsetung's mausoleum is built right in the middle of the square.

Guards everywhere.

Couples too, taking pictures.

And people selling things.

Even Chinese Michael Jackson was there.

I originally took this picture because this couple looked like they had a huge age difference. He looks younger in the picture.

Jacko's entourage.

More guards.

There are kites everywhere.

A miniature of a dam Megan says is being built near Wuhan.

Mount Everest, which Megan has climbed (the larger one).

There's just something about Mao. We were parodying this famous photo.

They're both glistening with desire...or overexposure.

We stopped under a tent for some beer while it rained.

The store was a friendly place.

Crossing guard.

An attempt at forced perspective.

Getting ready for another attempt.

Jung, Mao, and Megan.

It's a pretty large painting.

Megan gives Mao a kiss on the cheek.

So does Jung.

We went partway into the Forbidden City looking for a Starbucks for Megan.

It's a cafe but not a Starbucks.

The Forbidden Palace in the background.
