Hapjeong

This was another location that I was tipped off about by my colleague. There's a large field which used to have one or two structures, and it's surrounded by at least nine buildings all condemned. The most interesting find here was a music hakwon, which unfortunately didn't have any abandoned musical instruments. I only explored a few of the locations.

Hangook Ilbo

I got a tip from a colleague that the Hangook Ilbo building near Gwanghwamoon was fenced off and looked like it was condemned. He's worried it will be demolished soon, but I know it'll take a short while before that happens.

The area fenced off also includes another building which seems to be under construction. Behind them, there's a small neighbourhood of Hanok-style houses.

On this visit, half the police on the peninsula were within 500 meters, but at some future point it shouldn't be hard to slip inside and see what hasn't been destroyed already.

Sindaebang

I took a trip back to Sindaebang to see how my favourite church was doing. It's still there, but another building right behind it was smashed down, and another one behind that one has had its walls gashed off. It's obvious the church is going to be demolished, but they're having more moral qualms evicting the church so they're doing all the other buildings first. Eventually the church will wind up like the others.

Hotel Valentine

We took a scooter ride to see the hotel my family is booked in for their visit this week.

On the way we got pulled over by the cops, and Jung lied her way out of us going back to the police station. They told us to take the scooter off the road and not drive it, so we took a walk and found a condemned apartment block. There are two separate complexes that have been walled off, although access is easy to both as they are used as parking lots. Also there is another building which is commercial on the main floor and residential above.

Weird Weather

Lately we've been having strange weather. Yesterday morning we went outside and it was extremely sunny. Then the clouds rolled over, and a minute later it was sunny again. Today at lunch there was a powerful rainstorm, almost the intensity of a car wash, and then when we went downstairs for lunch it was sunny. My boss say Koreans call this "fox weather," because in Korean folklore the fox is an indecisive animal.

The pictures from this gallery are all over the place. There are a lot of sky-related pictures.

Yongsan High School
After fellow UER poster langP sent me directions to an abandoned school in Yongsan, I rode my scooter out to get a better look.

There are six abandoned buildings surrounding a courtyard which is now used as a parking lot. There are two security guards in a booth near the front gate. I saw one of them riding around on a bike, and another one on the rooftop of one building. They don't seem so hardcore and probably are more concerned with the cars parked than access to the buildings.

A few spots around the outer wall, it's low enough that you could pull yourself over. It's a little over 6 feet and there are a few things around to help you. Watch out for foot traffic, although I doubt anyone would care too much.

Gwangheungchang Apartment
I rode my scooter around the construction site in Gwangheungchang and found an abandoned apartment. Access was tough and I had to do a bit of climbing but I got in.

Gwangheungchang Restaurant
On Sunday I took my scooter out to investigate an abandoned school. On the way I spotted this abandoned restaurant on the side of the road not far from Gwangheungchang Station. Access wasn't so tough, and inside was a fairly nice restaurant in poor condition.
