Hannam New Town
Here's a view of the redevelopment zone from a familiar roof on the eastern side.
Now we're on a roof within the redevelopment zone.
Looking back, where there are dozens of windows where someone could be watching us.
I was hoping to capture views like this, with the pathways disappearing due to novel signs of demolition.
I went into one sho and found what looks like a feathery headdress.
A view of that alley from higher up.
Looking the other way, toward Bogwang.
A tiny kitchen.
We found two sites where they had these weird little plastic containers, both just in residential yards. No idea what they could be, but I assume workers dumped them here. Coetzer thought they were parts from scooters, but I don't think so.
The big church used to be on the right of the road.
I have seen that graffiti before.
As we progressed up, we were drawn more into that road that had been lined with shops on both sides on top of that razor-thin ridge.
You can now see all the way to the Hyatt and the tower.
Lots of fun warning signs.
A giant excavator arm, probably for bringing down taller buildings.
This building still stands.
Ruined landscape.
The building on the right housed a studio that two artists I knew used.
Looking down over the western face of the ridge.
And looking up the street on top of the ridge.
This was looking down from atop the studio in the direction we'd come from.
That building in the center right had been of interest to me, because there had been a lot of interesting objects left behind.
I might have used that toilet, back when it might have still been in operation.
Inside a certain store.
One interesting object.
I decided we shouldn't go much further, because if there was one area that would be under heavy surveillance, it would be the stretch of this road up ahead.
Fork in the road.
This space used to be called Vegan Vibes and I wrote about it.
This was inside that building I pointed out that had been a target before, and had a yellow-painted ground floor.
It had been a kindergarten or whatever.
Or a Hankang Kindergarten.
We were intent to go downhill, aiming for that 16ish-storey building toward the right.
This kindergarten decorated the wall with a fake newspaper.
A very horrific newspaper.
The top floor of the building had been messed up pretty bad since my last visit.
Random photos. I'm sharing because I don't think any faces are identifiable at this resolution.
This middle school still exists, after heavy remodeling in the surrounding area. I would drive by it a few days later.
Our goal was now to walk down there, get to that one tall building, get inside, climb the stairs to the roof, and then get out.
It appears that Zone 3 doesn't stretch as far north as I had previously thought. This area will probably be next.
Another view toward the river.
