Tax Office

A collapsed little structure.

Is this what will come here next? Both a Starbucks and a McDonald's.

There was a door that looked like I might be able to open it, but behind me was a worker who might have noticed.

Closer look at the sign. They're all tax accountants.

Around at the front, I found this sign advertising the site's future.

I slipped through the curtain and faced this mess.

Tons of opened cat food cans.

This was a shop of some kind for cars.

Golf bags and a bowling ball.

August 2023.

A restaurant.

It was still pretty restaurantlike inside.

Behind the counter.

The menu had plenty of foods I would like, but the prices were nothing special. I guess jaeyook bokkeum for 6,000 won seems generous but it must be a small size.

I think this was a fancy import scooter shop.

A couch!

Next I got inside the building, which was predictably pretty gutted.

You can see all the guts thrown out, possibly right out from the windows.

Must be what happened here.

Didn't bother to translate this one.

This might be the first time I really noticed that the building across from me had a giant green canopy for a driving range.

Curved wall.

Smashed washroom.

More smashed.

Absolutely wrecked door. I'm assuming it was done with some sort of jaws of life tool to open a locked door. Must have been fun.

Newspapers in the wall.

This shows a building in Dongdaemun Market that has never really stood out that much to me.

I could, but I think I saw proper stairs leading up to the roof somewhere around here.

Not these stairs.

From the roof, I could see better onto the roof with the driving range.

And hey look, there's a big orange cat chilling out.

Looks OK, seems alert enough to see me, but is he trapped up there? Now I have a mission.

Here's one of those roof hatches from above.

When I looked the other side off the roof, this became a pretty prominent roadside space.

"Branew" is a terrible building brand.

Another look at the restaurant down below.

Pump store?

Next stop, up on the roof. You can see the orange cat running off, a little to the right above the overturned couch.

Here he comes.

I'm used to cats rushing to escape by coming right at me, so I moved a few steps aside so the little guy would have better access to the door behind me. But on his way toward me, he just straight up disappeared. Some of the furniture lying on the rooftop must have had a hollow space, or maybe there was a hole in the net leading down to something below. I looked around and never saw the cat again.

Anyway, he had been over there before, and the view I was getting was kind of artistic.

Not so artistic.

Golf crew.

Is that where the orange cat vanished to?

Another look at that pile of garbage leaning up against the first building I'd been in.

There was screen golf back here. It seems kind of odd to offer screen golf at a full driving range, although I've never done screen golf before.

This was from the second floor of the driving range.

With a bit more context in the foreground rim around the photo.

Where did that little guy go?

Careful when it's raining.

Some sort of payment system.

Another restaurant. This one looks pretty affordable, and a good split between cheap lunch food and more exciting meals.

I wanted to shake it up but I don't think there was water inside.

It started to dawn on me that maybe someone had been feeding that cat. For how long?

I found this kitchen behind the cat feeding station.

No, it's not a very interesting sign.

These three vehicles had alarmed me earlier, but they were just people taking advantage of an accidental parking lot. This site is very porous.
