Juneau

There is more the downtown Juneau area.

I was interested in this kind of residential area though.

Docking.

We were being circled by many bald eagles.

Possibly too young to be going bald.

Bands of cloud covered the hillsides.

Hitting land.

I was with my parents but we would not see each other for very long.

The tram to the top went into the clouds.

Was neat to photograph.

It reminded me of my trip to Nagasaki 20 years ago, when I took a similar gondola up to the top and was rewarded with glaring whiteness everywhere.

They had a brutalist-looking building that turned out to be the library.

I wandered around the main street looking for family.

And brutalism.

Same building still.

There were some kind of ruins up on the hillside.

This place was very touristy. When I walked in, the floor was covered in sawdust or peanut shells. Nobody I was looking for was there, so I left, only to find the only allowed exit was through the gift shop.

Would have been tempted to try a reindeer sandwich.

Anyway more wandering.

Another look at the brutalist library.

And a more North Korean-looking building.

Very Pyongyang.

I wanted a more straight-on look.

Also I started noticing the waterfalls, or at least steep streams uphill.

And birds were noticing me.

I passed by the dock.

I decided to stop for a burger.

My view while I was eating.

I did not figure out who she was.

I started to fixate on the power poles up in the trees.

This place was obviously a tourist landmark.

Speaking of Pyongyang, they had traffic people.

I bought a ton of sauces from this stand.

Earlier my dad and I said we'd only consider going up if we could see the top. Apparently this is just a waystation, but it's more than we could see earlier.

Heading back in.
